Frequently Asked Questions
How do I arrange a return for instrument service and/or
calibration?
If you would like to return equipment for service,
please review and complete the Return Materials Authorization Form. Please follow the instructions on page 1, complete the required fields on page 2, and then submit the form via fax or email. An RMA number will be generated and the form returned to you via fax or
email. Please clearly mark the RMA number on the package prior to shipment.
Why is Win-Situ® 5 Plus asking me for an activation
code and license?
Win-Situ 5 Plus is licensed software for use with
TROLL® Link 100 and 102 telemetry systems. If you are using a telemetry system and require Win-Situ 5 Plus, contact the Sales Department for purchase details. If you are not using either telemetry system, use the free Win-Situ 5. For best results, always use the most recent version of Win-Situ software.
Can I set up more than one scheduled test on the Level TROLL® or Aqua TROLL® instrument?
No. Only one Active Log at a time can exist on the Level TROLL or Aqua TROLL. An Active Log is a log that is in the Ready, Pending, Running, Suspended, or Invalid state.
How do I transfer data from the RuggedReader® handheld PC to my PC?
Use Microsoft® Active Sync software to establish a connection between the PC and the RuggedReader handheld PC. Use Win-Situ® Sync to automate the transfer process. See the RuggedReader Troubleshooting Guide for complete information on manual and automatic data transfers.
How do I synchronize the clock on the Level TROLL or Aqua TROLL with my PC or laptop?
Connect the instrument to the PC or laptop with a TROLL®
Com device. Open Win-Situ 5 software and
click the Connect button. If you are automatically prompted to sync clocks, select OK. To manually sync the clocks, go to the top right corner of Win-Situ 5 software. You will see a date and time for the PC and a date and time for the
TROLL instrument. Click on the blue square icon with arrow over arrow. This will sync the clock on the transducer to the
time on the PC or laptop.
If you use Win-Situ and the expander button: Select
time, make sure the RuggedReader time is correct, and tap the Sync button. You may not always need to sync the clocks when prompted. Sync them at the beginning of
the log and then leave the clocks alone to prevent disrupting the data time stamps.
How do I determine the COM port number for my USB TROLL Com?
Navigate to your PC's Device Manager. Expand the ports menu tree. Locate the USB device and note the COM port
number assignment (i.e., COM 4).
Open Win-Situ 5 on your PC or laptop, go to preferences, select Comm settings, locate the port number, and use the drop-down menu to select the COM port number that matches the Device Manager. Click on the checkmark button in the bottom right of the Comm settings window to accept the setting and close the window. Connect the transducer and click the connection button in Win-Situ 5 software.
Unable to connect Level TROLL or Aqua TROLL to Win-Situ software.
Make sure that all physical connections are secure and properly installed. Reset all devices. Then, make sure the that the COM port number in the Win-Situ 5 software Comm settings matches the COM port assigned to the drive on the PC or laptop device manager (see previous question). Connect the instrument to Win-Situ 5. For Win-Situ Mobile, select Comm settings in the lower left corner of the screen. Select Comm settings, then Reset. Connect the instrument to the software. If this does not resolve the connection issue, factory service may be required.
