USEPA Recommends Interim Approval of Optical Dissolved Oxygen Method
1 June 2006 USEPA, Region 4, SESD, Athens, Georgia – Notice of Region 4 Interim Approval of ASTM International Method D888-05 for measuring dissolved oxygen in the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) discharges. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Region 4 has announced the interim approval of ASTM International Method D888-05 for measuring dissolved oxygen concentrations under the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Program. This approval applies only to NPDES discharges which are physically located in EPA Region 4. January 2006 - Washington, DC January 2006 Recommendation for Interim Approval of ASTM International Standard Test Method D888-05 (ATP Case No. N05-0046). The USEPA has recommended, to each of its EPA Regions, the use of ASTM International D888-05 Standard Test Methods for Dissolved Oxygen in Water, Test Method C for use in measuring Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in wastewater 40 CFR part 136.5 and for use in measuring DO in methods approved in 40 CFR part 136.3 for measuring BOD. 2005 - ASTM International Accepts Optical Dissolved Oxygen Method - ASTM International Accepts Method D888-05, Standard Test Methods for Dissolved Oxygen in Water. This method lists the luminescence-based dissolved oxygen sensor method (Test Method C) as an acceptable standard method along with the traditional Winkler titration and electrochemical (Clark) methods.
