Several types of reuse systems are used in the aquaculture industry including partial reuse aquaculture systems (PRAS), recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), flow-through systems, and hatcheries. These intensive aquaculture production systems can reduce pollution, water use, and disease.

Due to the closed or partially closed nature of these systems, optimized water quality is critical to maintaining fish health.
