Monitoring Hydrologic Events
Flash floods, storm surges, and stormwater overflow endanger lives and damage property. Forecasters, scientists, and emergency responders use real-time hydrologic data to improve responses and to gain insight into storm systems and their effects. Use Level TROLL®, Aqua TROLL®, and TROLL® 9500 instruments to log data before, during, and after an event. Use In-Situ instruments for:
To improve accuracy of depth and level measurements in coastal situations, the Aqua TROLL 200 offers dynamic density compensation. During a storm, saline waters diluted by rainfall can appear falsely low if water density is not factored into the measurement.
"With this system in place [network of Level TROLL 500 and Aqua TROLL 200 instruments], we are better equipped to minimize the effects of even the worst storm. ... The measurements made by these sensors help us synchronize pumping to assure all elements of the water level control system are within proper ranges."– Bill Emmett (ret.), U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, New Orleans District
By connecting monitoring instruments to a TROLL® Link telemetry system, users can receive notifications based on alarm set points. The TROLL Link telemetry system can be set to trigger warning lights, close gates, or synchronize pumps. After collecting real-time data for several years, hydrologic professionals may be able to develop predictive models.
