Low-Flow System Automates Sampling

The In-Situ^® Flow-Sense System includes a TROLL^® 9500 Water Quality Instrument, RuggedReader^® Handheld PC, a flow-through vessel with baseplate, Flow-Sense Software, and other accessories.

The Flow-Sense System automates the collection of well and pumping information, monitors and records the stabilization of key water quality parameters, and automatically generates full calibration and sample reports that conform to federal and regional regulations.

Automated Test Setup

User, site, well, and pump information is entered. This is retained by the software and can be called up for the next sampling round. Simply select the sampling location from a pick list upon each sampling event and all historical information is available.

Automated Test and Calibration Reports

After stabilization, data is stored and can be exported into professional Excel^® report templates, complete with company logo. Supporting calibration reports are generated and stored automatically.

Automated Data Collection

Stabilization criteria are set for each monitored parameter and data collection intervals are defined by time or pumped volumes. The software automatically calculates and displays variance during the sampling event. Data is logged at pre-determined intervals.

Win-Situ^® Sync Software

Win-Situ Sync Software automatically copies well records and data between an office computer and the RuggedReader Handheld PC. Records can be dispersed quickly to a field crew upon delivery of rental equipment without the need for reentering information—significantly reducing set up time.

“The low-flow sampling equipment that we rented from In-Situ worked great,” reported Daniel Hennessy, hydrogeologist technician at AECOM. “It allowed us to continually record and store data on the RuggedReader Handheld PC. We were able to customize the software for the parameters that we wanted to meet, set our sampling intervals, and see when the water had become stable enough to sample.

“Some advantages of the Flow-Sense Software were that we didn’t need to manually keep notes and track the readings,” Mr. Hennessy said. “One person could set up a well, start sampling, and move on to the next well. Another advantage is that once a template is created, it can be used at subsequent sampling events. Likewise, after sampling is completed, we just download new data onto the computer and produce report sheets and graphs. Overall, I was very pleased with the low-flow equipment, and I am looking forward to using it at our next sampling event.”
